Supreme Court to consider California's under-eighteens games ban

The Supreme Court has agreed to reevaluate whether playing violent games is a constitutional right of the under-eighteens.

It's to review a Sacramento federal court's decision to prevent California from banning the sale or rental of games to minors. The law would also have required strictly controlled labeling

Live SkyDrive is an awesome service. 25GB of web storage for free? Yeah, that sounds good to me. Sure, the 50MB per file limit is a little bit of a downside but it's still a great place to store documents, music, and photos.

Heck, if you tell an app like 7zip to chunk big files up into 50MB pieces you can store whatever the heck you want. If only there was a way to access your SkyDrive storage like a local hard drive without an app like Gladinet or SD Explorer...Why, that'd make it like a free Dropbox account x 12.5!

HP launches new gaming console Swing in India

Hewlett-Packard has launched a new motion sensing gaming console called HP Swing in the Indian market. The highly interactive device will we offered with the HP Pavilion Desktop PCs exclusively.

The console will enable users to play real life experience action in games like tennis, bowling, basketball, pool and more. The company is claiming that this will be the first time motion sensing will be available on a PC.

Shift It brings Windows 7's Aero Snap to your Mac

Windows 7 includes a whole slew of new built-in hotkeys. One set I find myself using quite a bit are the Aero Snap keys -- win + up, down, left, and right -- to quickly reposition application windows on my desktop. If you happen to use a Mac and you want the same functionality, Shift It can provide it.

Launch the app, and it sits up in your status bar waiting for hotkeys to be pressed. Shift It offers a few more zones than Aero Snap -- in addition to halves, it also handles splitting your screen in quarters. Windows can also be centered and maximized (labeled "full screen," but it doesn't actual full-screen a la your web browser).

Ning Fails at Free Social Networking

Ning, a brainchild of Netscape bazillionaire Marc Andreessen that was designed to let anyone make a social network about anything for free, won’t do it anymore. Each of the service’s 2.3 million networks’ users will disappear unless its creator either pays Ning or migrate the network to another platform.

So much for “free” as the future of business — as far as Ning goes, anyway. The company accepted hundreds of millions of dollars from investors, and they apparently want more of a return than Ning is able to provide as a free service.

IBM Thinkpad R31 Laptop Disassembly

I recently repaired an IBM Thinkpad R31 Laptop with an error message about CMOS checksum being bad. This error is usually caused by a dead (empty) CMOS battery. This battery lasts for 3 to 5 years. Some says that it even lasts for 10 years. Whatever the case, you will need to replace the CMOS battery (also known as BIOS battery). The CMOS battery is usually located at the motherboard. Some under the laptop compartment while in other models it's located right underneath the keyboard. In the case of IBM thinkpad R31 laptop, it is located under the keyboard. So, you will only need to disassemble the laptop keyboard to have access to the CMOS battery. R.I.P. Computer Mouse? Not So Fast

“The rumors of my death have been greatly exaggerated!” quipped Mark Twain after a newspaper prematurely published his obituary. I think the same applies to CNET’s Dan Ackerman contending in R.I.P. The Computer Mouse, 1972-2010. Ackerman thinks that something being largely overlooked amidst the tsunami of iPad hype is what he deems its biggest potential “achievement” — that Apple’s touchscreen quasi-PC might have finally struck a fatal blow to the longstanding standard of computer input devices, the computer mouse.

Download Official NASA Hidden Universe Theme For Windows 7

Microsoft has been adding quite a number of good themes to the Windows 7 Personalization Gallery. Earlier this week, we reported about Bing’s Best 2 theme for Windows 7.

Today, Microsoft added a new theme named NASA Hidden Universe to the gallery. The theme contains some excellent high-quality pictures taken by NASA’s Spitzer space telescope. The theme contains 14 wallpapers and the themepack is 7 MB in size.

Latest Facebook infection: syphilis!

I'll be the first to admit that the evidence sounds a bit thin, but the Telegraph is reporting about a UK-based study that found a rise in syphilis in three areas of Britain with above-average Facebook use. It's not as if playing Farmville is going to give you a sexually-transmitted disease -- although I can't prove that conclusively -- so how did the researchers explain the link?

Turns out the people who used social networking sites more frequently were also using them to arrange more casual hookups. In other words, a key assumption of the study is that Facebook can successfully get you laid. I'll just have to take their word for it, I guess, but these British researchers found that people had arranged encounters with multiple partners over Facebook, probably leading to the uptick in the number of infections.
